I'm not one to pay a lot of attention to the songs I listen to. I just like to listen to good music and sing/hum/whistle/imagine I'm singing along (when I'm in the library or somewhere I need to quiet).
Pandora is the perfect way for me to listen to music. I enter one musical artist I like and Pandora does the rest, introducing me to all kinds of songs, most of which I like.
Today I entered Colbie Caillat and Pandora brought up the following (among other) songs:
John Mayer's version of Free Fallin' - which I had never heard
Jack Johnson's Upside Down
Chantal Kreviazuk's Feels Like Home
Not bad! I hadn't heard this last one for years, and I like it.
Pandora works for me because I listen to music rather passively. I don't mind not being able to go back and listen again (I can always pause Pandora and go to YouTube to repeat songs if I really want to), and I'm often in the mood for a certain type of music. Pandora's setup caters well to that since its song selection is based on the style of the artist you originally made a "station" with, and it also takes into account any input you provide along the way (i.e. thumbs up or down for songs you really like or dislike). Pandora introduces me to new artists while also playing plenty of songs I'm familiar with.
I've never really tried playlist.com, so I can't say how it compares to Pandora. Thoughts?

From what I can tell Playlist.com doesn't really supply you with new suggestions or anything. It is nice that you can store your playlist. I've never used Pandora but I know Blaine loves it. For us, er Gwen, who likes about ten songs put on repeat for hours on end playlist.com works great, but you've inspired me to try pandora.
I use Pandora at work and love it. It does a nice job of choosing songs I like and working new (or at least new to me) stuff too. The way you use YouTube, is the way I use playlist... to be able to listen to specific titles and put them into my playlist/blog. Kristi is right though, no new suggestions from playlist you just have to know what you want.
Thanks for sharing! I've never used it...and will now.
Hey Bart! Thanks for commenting on my blog and I'm glad you found us!
So exciting about Boston next year. I've never been but it's always been a place I've wanted to visit. I hear it's beautiful.
Concerning Pandora and Playlist--I use both. I usually start with Pandora and when I hear a song I like, I find it on Playlist and add it to my own personalized list that I can access whenever I want. So, when I'm feeling picky or need to hear a specific song I usually bring up Playlist. Playlist is also nice because you can acces other people's playlists. Sometimes you find someone with the same tastes as you, but they have completely different songs; ones that you probably wouldn't stumble across on your own. You can then add these songs to your playlist.
So there's my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. =)
Hey Bart, I am also a Pandora fan. I really like the John Mayer version of "Free Falling" you posted. Hmmmm, might have to visit iTunes for that one.
So....today I tried to play. I was met with THIS:
"Dear Pandora Visitor,
We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative."
:(
Sad times, Angela Noelle! Maybe it's just temporary.
