Should I Consolidate My Blogs? Permanently?

One of my goals for 2009 was to post at least one photo each week on Janssen and my family blog. There were several reasons for doing so:

1 - To document at least a small portion of our lives
2 - To stay in touch with family and friends
3 - To provide an incentive to do more photo-worthy things
4 - To get in the habit of taking more photos. I love photos.

Anyway, I've been happy with the results.

I originally had in mind a 2009 goal for this blog (what I think of as my personal blog) as well, but I had a difficult time deciding what this blog is really about and what it means to me. When I get busy, I end up either neglecting this blog entirely, or just posting Weekend Would You Rathers (because I love them, and my good readers seem to enjoy them, too).

Other entries have been quite varied in content, including dreams, personal goals, finances, business and career commentary, religious views, musical groups, facts about Austin, school experiences, college sports, vacations, etc..

I'm trying to decide, currently, whether I shouldn't just consolidate this blog with our family blog, for which there is a valid purpose. The only downside, as far as I can tell, would be losing my personal blog identity, though I'm sure 26 Vibrations would eventually become my personal blog with occasional contributions from Janssen.

I'd still be able to post entries about whatever I wanted, including Would You Rathers, but I'd no longer have the feeling that I'm neglecting something, especially since I'd at least continue the weekly photo posts to keep family and friends informed.

What do you think? Is there anything I'm missing as I consider this very important blog consolidation decision?

In other words, would you rather I consolidate (easier for you, no?)

or

not consolidate?

Why?

I would do whatever would be easier for you--which sounds like consolidation. I read both your blogs in Google Reader so a change wouldn't really impact my reading. Just don't stop both.

In what I consider an all time low in my blogging life, I had NO IDEA you guys had another blog.

How embarrassing.

I'm with the Moncurs; I had no idea you had another blog.

You do what you need to do. (In case you didn't know, you can move everything from one blog into the other blog. It was super simple to do even for a computer "dumbie" like me.) Please just let us know which blog to follow, okay?

PS: I just skimmed through most of your posts on 26 Vibrations. Nice blog. I wish I'd known about it earlier!

Three things:

I had to laugh at the one where you were amazed at Janssen's ability to multi-task. After 33 years of being married, I still can't understand why my husband can't do more than one thing at a time. LOL

Some of those posts explain unexplained references in Janssen's and Merrick's blogs.

I noticed you have Sitemeter. May I ask - do you use the free version or the paid version? Do you get advertising or pop-ups? I'd like to try something like Sitemeter on my blog. Thanks.

As long as you don't mind us non-family members popping in to see your weekly activities, I'd say go ahead and consolidate.

It seems a lot easier to consolidate, and both have varied content, so I don't think it would hurt either one. At least you know who your audience is! My main problem with posting in two places is coming up with totally original content for both. Not that I am a real blogger, mind, but we share an extended family blog that I rarely contribute to after I started my own. Since you do all of yours and that one, maybe consolidation is the better choice.

P.S. You could call it
26 Vibrations...A Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi

:)

Bart, I would like you to consolidate as long as you do all of the normal things that I enjoy such as would you rathers and information about some of your classes, the things you find interesting and fascinating, etc. I'm still amazed that I thought the guy with a cap was you and I don't believe I'd had any kind of alcoholic beverage with or without soy sauce in it.
